2022 Ford Explorer Trim Levels

The base, XLT, ST-Line, Timberline, and Limited trims are equipped with a turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine producing 300 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque.

Standard features for the base Explorer trim include LED headlights, 18-inch alloy wheels, a power-adjustable driver's seat, cloth seats, a 35/30/35-split folding second-row bench seat, 50/50-split folding third-row seats, a power liftgate, and tri-zone automatic climate control. Standard technology features include an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a six-speaker audio system, satellite radio, a Wi-Fi hotspot, FordPass Connect services, and two USB ports.

Standard safety gear includes rear parking sensors, a rearview camera, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, rear cross-traffic alert, a driver attention monitor, a pre-collision warning and braking system, and blind spot monitoring.

The XLT trim comes with keyless access/push-button engine start, heated front seats, a power-adjustable front passenger seat, second-row captain's chairs, upgraded interior trim, heated exterior mirrors, roof rails, and second-row USB ports.

The ST-Line starts with the XLT's features and adds sporty styling touches, 20-inch machined alloy wheels, a black grille, black exterior trim, dark-tinted headlights and taillights, ambient interior lighting, simulated leather and suede upholstery, power-folding exterior mirrors, rain-sensing windshield wipers, a navigation system, wireless smartphone charging, and a surround-view camera system. Audiophiles will love the standard Bang & Olufsen premium audio system with 12 speakers.

The off-road-focused Timberline trim gets the features of the XLT trim and the ST trim's safety features. It also comes with all-wheel drive, exclusive front styling, 18-inch black alloy wheels, all-terrain tires, off-road suspension tuning with extra ground clearance, a limited-slip rear differential, simulated leather upholstery with cloth inserts, heated second-row seats, trailer towing equipment, front tow hooks, and underbody skid plates.

In addition to the conventional Limited model, this trim is also available as a hybrid that utilizes a 3.3-liter V-6 engine and an electric motor to generate a total of 318 hp. The Limited trim comes with the equipment of the XLT, plus the audio system, infotainment setup, and safety features of the ST-line. It adds 20-inch alloy wheels, ambient interior lighting, additional chrome exterior trim, ventilated front seats, power-folding and heated second-row seats, leather upholstery, a heated steering wheel, power-folding exterior mirrors, rain-sensing windshield wipers, second-row sunshades, and front parking sensors.

The ST, King Ranch, and Platinum trims are powered by a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 that puts out 400 hp and 415 lb-ft of torque. This performance-tuned model features paddle shifters, quad exhaust outlets, sport front seats with bolsters, leather upholstery with simulated suede inserts, a heated steering wheel, trailer towing equipment, and a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel.

The Western-themed King Ranch trim builds on the features of the Limited. It adds exterior approach lighting, wood interior trim, exclusive leather upholstery, leather-wrapped interior panels, driver's seat memory, power-release second-row captain's chairs, a power-folding third-row seat, a power-adjustable tilt/telescoping steering wheel, and heated and power-folding exterior mirrors with integrated LED turn signals. Also standard is a hands-free liftgate, a 12.3-inch digital instrumentation panel, and rear automatic braking.

Move up to the Platinum trim, and you'll get plenty of luxurious amenities. The Platinum gets the features of the King Ranch, plus 21-inch polished alloy wheels, a satin aluminum grille and exterior trim, adaptive headlights, unique wood interior trim, and diamond-pattern leather upholstery.
