2023 Ford Explorer Trim Levels

The 2023 Ford Explorer is available in eight trim levels: base, XLT, Limited, ST-Line, Timberline, ST, King Ranch, and Platinum. According to the Cottonwood area Ford dealer, all models are equipped with a ten-speed automatic transmission. All trims except the Timberline come standard with rear-wheel drive and offer all-wheel-drive as an option. The Timberline gets standard all-wheel drive.

The base, XLT, ST-Line, Timberline, and Limited trims are powered by a turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine generating 300 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque. The base Explorer trim is equipped with 18-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, cloth upholstery, a power-adjustable driver's seat, a 35/30/35-split folding second-row bench seat, 50/50-split folding third-row seats, tri-zone automatic climate control, and a power liftgate. Standard tech features include Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, an 8-inch touchscreen, a six-speaker stereo setup, a Wi-Fi hotspot, satellite radio, two USB ports, and FordPass Connect services. Standard safety features for the base trim include a rearview camera, lane departure warning, rear parking sensors, blind spot monitoring, a pre-collision warning and braking system, lane keep assist, rear cross-traffic alert, a driver attention monitor, and rear parking sensors.

The XLT trim builds upon the base trim's features with keyless entry and push-button start, upgraded interior trim, heated front seats, a power-adjustable front passenger seat, second-row captain's chairs, roof rails, heated exterior mirrors, and USB ports in the second row.

Expanding on the features of the XLT trim, the sporty ST-Line offers 20-inch machined alloy wheels, black exterior trim, dark-tinted headlights and taillights, a black grille, ambient interior lighting, power-folding exterior mirrors, faux leather and suede upholstery, rain-sensing windshield wipers, wireless smartphone charging, a navigation system, and a surround-view camera system. Music enthusiasts will appreciate the standard Bang & Olufsen premium stereo system, complete with 12 speakers.

The Timberline trim is designed for off-road enthusiasts. It includes the XLT and ST trim's safety equipment. It also comes with 18-inch black alloy wheels wrapped in all-terrain tires, all-wheel drive, exclusive front styling, a limited-slip rear differential, off-road suspension tuning with increased ground clearance, synthetic leather upholstery with cloth inserts, heated second-row seats, underbody skid plates, front tow hooks, and trailer towing equipment.

The Limited trim is offered in both conventional and hybrid versions, with the latter powered by a 3.3-liter V6 engine and an electric motor that produce a combined output of 318 hp. The Limited trim incorporates the features of the XLT trim; and the infotainment setup, stereo system, and safety features of the ST-Line. Standard features include 20-inch alloy wheels, added chrome exterior trim, ambient interior lighting, ventilated front seats, leather upholstery, power-folding and heated second-row seats, power-folding exterior mirrors, a heated steering wheel, rain-sensing windshield wipers, front parking sensors, and second-row sunshades.

The ST and higher trims are equipped with a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 engine developing 400 hp and 415 lb-ft of torque. The performance-oriented ST trim comes with quad exhaust outlets, paddle shifters, a heated steering wheel, leather upholstery with synthetic suede inserts, sport front seats with bolstering, trailer towing equipment, and a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel. 2023 Ford Explorer King Ranch The King Ranch trim, with its Western-themed design, starts with the features of the Limited. It adds wood interior trim, exterior approach lighting, leather-wrapped interior panels, a power-adjustable tilt/telescoping steering wheel, unique leather upholstery, driver's seat memory, second-row captain's chairs with power-release, a power-folding third-row seat, and heated power-folding exterior mirrors with built-in LED turn signals. Additional standard features include a 12.3-inch digital instrumentation panel, a hands-free liftgate, and rear automatic braking.

The top-of-the-line Platinum trim offers an array of luxurious amenities. It includes the features of the King Ranch trim and adds 21-inch polished alloy wheels, adaptive headlights, a satin aluminum grille and exterior trim, exclusive wood interior trim, and diamond-pattern leather upholstery.
