The 2026 Ford Explorer seats either six or seven passengers, depending on how it’s configured. It’s offered in five trim levels: Active, ST-Line, ST, Platinum, and the new Tremor. All models except the ST are motivated by a turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine developing 300 horses and 310 lb-ft of torque. The ST is powered by a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 good for 400 hp and 415 lb-ft. This powerplant is available on the Tremor. According to the Show Low Ford dealership, both engines are connected to a 10-speed automatic gearbox. Rear-wheel drive is standard on all trims except the Tremor. All-wheel drive is standard on the Tremor and optional on the others.

The 2026 Ford Explorer continues to receive high marks from the automotive media. Kelley Blue Book writes: “The Explorer’s base engine makes the most sense for most drivers, but the enthusiast in us loves the optional 400-horsepower twin-turbo V6 – it’s simply one of our favorite engines in this class.”
On the inside, the Explorer features soft-touch materials in the dash, center console, and door panels. Passengers have no trouble getting into the third row, thanks to a system that slides the second row out of the way at the touch of a button. Buyers can choose second-row captain’s chairs, available on the upper trims. The Explorer provides 16.3 cubic feet of cargo space behind the third row, and 85.8 cubic feet with the second and third rows folded.
